Vegoritis Lake - Pella Perfecture

After our visit the last Sunday to the Vegoritis Lake ...there were three rainy days ..and then today the sun was shining again in the sky. As it was our National Day so a free day...we decided that it would be interesting to pay a visit again to see if there are changes ....
What a surprise !!! Only three days and everything started to remind of spring on the road to the lake ...The trees started to blossom with pink and white flowers and there were little wild flowers in the fields too.
It was rather silent when we arrived ..From the puddles around we supposed it was raining earlier ..but the wild trees were full of flowers on the slopes of the hills too ...

As the sky was going clearer and clearer as the time was passing ..we discovered the changes around us ..Yes little birds were displaying ...all with their summer colours ...except of Reed buntings ...Corn buntings were singing on the highest branches of the bushes...
There were less raptors but we saw a nice male Hen harrier. In the lake we saw few Tufted Ducks among the Grebes...We took some photos of a nice pair of Black necked Grebe in their summer colours.
When we reached to the 'island' (it isn't an island any more ..as the level of water is significant lower the last years) we was surprised by a nice flock of little birds ...How many species ...all together ...but of course my attention was caught by Wagtails ..and yes between them it was one Black headed Wagtail ...Great ...I was waiting to see this little bird that passes every year that season during its migration ...
As kostis was calling and calling on the mobile phone that he was hungry and we had to return as soon as back ..we saw and heard the display of Calandra Lark ...exactly at the same place we had seen it last year ..

Here are some of the species we saw today

Podiceps cristatus, Podiceps nigricollis, Tachybaptus ruficollis, Ardea cinerea, Phalacrocorax carbo, Phalacrocorax pygmeus, Aythya fuligula, Gallinula chloropus, Fulica atra, Buteo buteo, Circus cyaneus, Falco tinnunculus, Melanocorypha calandra, Calerida cristata, Anthus spinoleta, Motacilla alba, Motacilla feldegg, Saxicola torquata, Emberiza calandra, Emberiza cirlus, Emberiza shoeniclus, Parus caeruleus, Acanthis cannabina, Corvus corone cornix, Pica pica

Enjoy the photos ....

Village Arnissa ...

and the mountains on the background

The slopes around

The ex-island ..now just a peninsula into the lake
in every place in Greece you can see ancient monuments -a very distant photo of the other side of the Lake
The lake, the trees (apples, peaches) and the hills behind

at the right side you can see a flying Grey Heron, over the apple trees...still with no flowers on them
You can still click on the photos to see them larger
