NOAA Okeanos Explorer 2016,

Dive 08: Eifuku Seamount

Today we are conducting the first-ever ROV exploration of Eifuku Seamount, starting at a depth of  ~ 500 meters. We’ll spend approximately eight hours on the seafloor, exploring for hydrothermal vents and characterizing any local chemosynthetic animal communities that are found, as well as characterizing the geology. Once we come off the bottom, we’ll spend about two hours exploring the midwater column.
